Crops monitoring app

Mottes app: a crop monitoring app which help farmers to get better results

Background

Mottes, an agro-tech company, has been saving agricultural crops and farmers' money since 1978 and offers technological solutions for agriculture all around the world, intended to help producing quality crops and accurate irrigation according, based on the exact plant needs.

Who?
The target users are farmers and irrigation control workers.

The Challenge
Farmers face high financial costs and ambiguity about the condition of the plants, when they face an emergency situation which threatens their agricultural growth.
Mottes app allows the framers online monitoring for their crops, which improves plant growing efficiency.

How?
Thanks to the company's main product: "Tensiometer", a sensor sued to measure how "thirsty" plants are. The farmer puts the sensor in the soil, near to the plant roots. The name "Tensiometer" stands for Tension, and meter: a device which allows measuring the plant roots tension in the soil. When the plant needs more water, the sensor transmits the relevant data to the "Mottes" application.

The farmer can receive alerts and monitor the condition of his plants around the clock, and know exactly when the plant needs irrigation. As a result, the farmer can save a lot of money on expensive resources (water, pesticides and more), improve the quality of the crop, prevent plants diseases, and more.

Role : Product Designer

User journey map

In order to understand better the app users needs, I reached out to farmers, which are the target audience for Mottes app. I asked questions which allowed me a better understanding of their standard work day. I tried to understand what a typical farmer daily habits, including their tasks,  challenges, and feelings.

Most importantly, I tried to understand the time of day where the farmer was using Mottes application, and how the app helps him with his challenges and daily tasks. Without the app, most framers were concerned about their crops status, when they were physically far away from them, and were worried about the potential irrigation expenses.

The vision: makes farmers life better!

Let's go deeper

Before redesign

The current design has a lot of ui and ux problems.
In the log in screen in the left - the gray stripe above is unnecessary and does not look professional. The logo does not look good, the layouts are not good, the typography is not balanced, the texts are too big, the CTA button is larger than the box allotted to it.

Below are the pressures of flags that allow switching between language and language but these buttons are unnecessary because the application can automatically detect what language is defined in the user's phone and therefore display in the desired language.

Of course, there will be a possibility in the new design in the settings feature to change to another language if necessary. Also, there us no option that saves the password and log in automatically which causes users to be frustrated.

In the graph screen in the right - again, the gray stripe above is unnecessary and does not look professional. The logo does not look good, the layouts are not good, the typography is not balanced and the graph is unclear.
